Workshop: When the works tell stories

Apollo, Pan, Orpheus, Psyche, Hercules and Venus: the XIXth century loves myths and legends, inexhaustible source of inspiration. This visit is based on works chosen for their historical, literary or mythological content, whose presentation is made in a telling form, based on the original texts that make it possible to render the essence of the work, but also adaptations and more recent versions.

The paintings have the value of testimony “. The guide-lecturer of the Musée d’Orsay announces the purpose of the visit: to retrace the history of the city in the works of the artists who represented it. For this, a panorama of paintings from the XIXth century to the present day, from the permanent collection but also from the museum reserve. The tour begins with a masterly painting of the port of Brest. The colors are bright and everything seems to demonstrate the power of this military port.
